The triannual survey from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York found the lowest average wage respondents would be willing to accept for a new job is $81,822. This is up from $73,391 in November 2023. There are various potential reasons for this drastic increase in pay expectations, with inflation chief among them.

Maryland Set to Pass Updated Pay Transparency Law

Maryland is set to update its pay transparency law to require employers to provide salary ranges on job postings. The bill ( HB 649 ) was passed by the Senate March 29 after the House passed it March 15. If signed by Gov. Wes Moore, Maryland would become the seventh U.S. state to require salary ranges on job postings. California, Colorado , Hawaii, Illinois, New York, and Washington state, as well as New York City and Washington D.C. all have salary range requirements on job postings.

Jennifer Boysko, Senate Bill 370 has passed in the Virginia legislature and is headed to Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s desk. Legal analysts are dubious as to whether Gov. Youngkin will sign the legislation into law. If he does, Virginia would become the 10th U.S. state to pass pay transparency legislation.
